Rules & Guidance

No serious competition seems possible without formal rules!
We have plenty of them on the national, regional and local levels,
as listed below:

                                                USTA National League rules
                                                    Southern Section rules
                                               South Carolina state rules
                                                AATL Constitution

AATL local league General Rules
                                               AATL Mixed Doubles rules
                                                        AATL Combo rules

Tennis sportsmanship and etiquette guidelines may be found online in Friend at Court. These
guidelines cover the size of the court, legal rackets, how to keep score, etc. They can come in
handy when you find yourself in odd situations.
Click here for several examples of such
tennis situations and the appropriate rule interpretations. Situations like these and others are
covered in "
The Code," which is also found in Friend at Court.  "The Code" is a summary of
procedures and rules which custom and tradition dictate all players should follow.

Another useful USTA feature is "
The Final Word," where members have received definitive
rulings though Q&As with the USTA Director of Officials.  Also check out the CSRA Women's
League handy "
Court Advisor."  For still more useful rules information, click here.

If you want to play in another state or out of your local area, you need
to fill out one of these forms:

Out of Area form                                     Out of State form

Save the form to your computer, fill it in, then e-mail it to Royce Borden,
AATL League Coordinator,
and Eddie Estochen, AATL Secretary, at:

theBorden5@AOL.com                          AATLsecretary@bellsouth.net

The Singles League will follow
AATL General Rules plus a few
more, which can be viewed by
clicking here.

The
Doubles League will also
follow AATL General Rules.  The
only differences are that there will
be a maximum of 12 players per
team, and there is no limit on the
Out -of-State or Out-of Area
players you may have on your
team (i.e., no approval forms are
required).
